Description

The Wells score is a clinical aid to the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolus (PE). NICE have issued guidance on the use of this score and created some associated flow charts to help in the decision pathway.

The clinical references are:

• Wells PS et al. (2000) Derivation of a simple clinical model to categorize patient's probability of pulmonary embolism: increasing the model's utility with the SimpliRED D-dimer. Thrombosis and Haemostasis 83: 416–20

• Wells PS et al. (2003) Evaluation of D-dimer in the diagnosis of suspected deep-vein thrombosis.

This calculator uses the NICE guidelines and associated medical literature to calculate the Wells Score. The app then shows the relevant flow chart, from the NICE guidance.

We have released this app as an Open Source project and this is available in our GitHub repository.
